“Kkondae(꼰대)” is a catchphrase that gained popularity in South Korea that loosely translates as a “condescending older person”, often found in a middle or upper management position. Most of the time, the term is used to mock the older generation for their traits, including but not limited to a lack of empathy regarding the struggles of youth, such as rising living standards or college debts, climate change denial, and opposition to younger generations’ ideals.
